3D Model Optimizer for Engineers

STEP CRUSHER

3D Model Optimizer  •  Reduce Geometry  •  Accelerate Everything

Your customer just sent you a 2 GB STEP file with a million faces your viewport doesn't need. STEP Crusher compresses it into a clean, lightweight reference model so your machine stops choking and you get back to actual engineering work.

Your GPU Shouldn't Be
Melting Over a Reference Model

When customers send assembly STEP files, they're sending everything -- every fastener, every internal surface, every face your display driver has to render in real time. You don't need that. You need a lightweight reference you can open in two seconds and get out of your way.

Viewport Lag Kills Focus

Rotating a massive assembly model shouldn't require a coffee break. Bloated STEP files turn every pan and zoom into a slideshow.

⚙️

You Don't Need Interior Geometry

Customer files include internal components, fastener threads, and surface detail your team will never reference. That's dead weight on your system.

📁

Sharing Is a Nightmare

Emailing a 2 GB file or saving to a shared drive shouldn't require a prayer. Optimized models live everywhere, move fast, and open clean.

Everything You Need.
Nothing You Don't.

Three Output Quality Modes
Light, Medium, and Detailed output modes let you dial in exactly the right balance of file size and visual fidelity. Medium is the sweet spot for 99% of reference work.
🎯
SolidWorks-Ready Output
Output files open directly in SolidWorks without import headaches or intermediate conversion steps. Drop the file, open it, get to work.
🗜️
Intelligent Mesh Reduction
STEP Crusher strips excess face count from complex geometry while preserving the visual accuracy your team actually needs. The shape stays right. The weight drops hard.
🖱️
Dead Simple Interface
Drag your file in. Pick your quality. Hit Process. No settings to bury yourself in, no documentation to read first. Built by engineers, for engineers.
📊
Output Size Preview
Know what you're getting before you process. Estimated output size is shown per quality tier so you can make the right call for your workflow.
🔁
Fast Batch Processing
Processing multiple models from the same customer assembly? STEP Crusher runs fast so you can move through a stack of files without babysitting a progress bar.

Four Steps.
Two Minutes.

No training required. No manual to read. If you can use SolidWorks, you can use STEP Crusher on day one.

1

Drop Your STEP File

Drag any .stp or .step file directly into the window, or click to browse.

2

Choose Output Quality

Select Light, Medium, or Detailed depending on your fidelity needs.

3

Process

Hit the Process button. STEP Crusher reduces the mesh and generates your output file.

4

Open in SolidWorks

Open the output directly in SolidWorks. Clean, fast, and ready to work with.

Engineers Who Stopped
Fighting Their Tools

One of our bigger customers sent us a full machine assembly -- the file was over 1.5 GB and my workstation just about gave up on me. Ran it through STEP Crusher on Medium and had a clean 70 MB reference model open in SolidWorks in under two minutes.

We do a lot of custom access platform work and we're always pulling in customer-supplied equipment models. Every single one of those files is enormous. STEP Crusher is now the first thing those files go through before anyone on my team touches them.
DT
Dave T.Senior Project Engineer, Industrial Fabrication
I was skeptical the output would hold up visually but it looks exactly right for what we need. The geometry is clean, the form is accurate, and my GPU temperature dropped 30 degrees. I can't believe I was suffering through raw files for as long as I was.
JL
Jason L.CAD Designer, OEM Equipment
Setup took about 45 seconds. The interface is completely self-explanatory. I didn't read a single page of documentation and had my first file processed and open in SolidWorks before I'd finished my coffee. That's exactly what a utility tool should be.
KS
Karen S.Lead Designer, Structural Fabrication
We're a small shop and nobody has time to babysit a workstation choking on a model file. STEP Crusher paid for itself in the first hour. The time we were losing to viewport lag was real money and we just weren't measuring it.
BR
Brad R.Owner, Custom Fabrication Shop
The three quality tiers are a really smart feature. Light mode is perfect for quick layout checks, Detailed is there when I need final clearance verification. Flexibility without any extra complexity in the workflow is exactly right.

Common Questions.
Straight Answers.

What does STEP Crusher actually do to the file?
It reduces the polygon and face count of the 3D geometry in your STEP file, producing a simplified mesh that is visually accurate but much lighter for your system to render. Think of it as removing the level of detail your display driver never needed in the first place.
Will the output file work in SolidWorks?
Yes. Output files are formatted to open directly in SolidWorks without any intermediate conversion steps or import configuration. Drop it in and it opens clean.
What's the difference between Light, Medium, and Detailed?
Light (~15-40 MB) is for fast layout checks where you just need to see the form. Medium (~40-100 MB) is the recommended default -- balanced fidelity and size for most reference work. Detailed (~100-250 MB) preserves more geometry for final clearance verification or high-visibility documentation.
Is this a subscription? What happens after I buy?
No subscription. You pay once and own the license permanently. Free updates are included within the current major version. If a major version release adds significant new capability, that may be offered as a separate upgrade -- but we'll communicate that clearly before it happens.
Does it require an internet connection to run?
No. STEP Crusher runs entirely on your local machine. No cloud processing, no data leaves your network, no internet required after the initial download and license activation.
What operating systems are supported?
STEP Crusher runs on Windows 10 and Windows 11. macOS support is not available at this time. If you're running a Windows workstation with SolidWorks, you're good to go.
How large of a file can it handle?
STEP Crusher handles large assembly files comfortably -- the type of 500 MB to 2+ GB files that typically cause viewport problems are exactly what it was built for. Processing time scales with file size but remains practical for typical engineering workflows.
